For the first time ever, a systematic description of the New Apostolic doctrine has been developed. Naturally there have already been other works describing significant elements of the New Apostolic faith, for example the book Questions and Answers concerning the New Apostolic Faith, which was last revised in 1992. Nevertheless there have been increasing calls for a more comprehensive description of our doctrine. The New Apostolic Church is active in many countries of varying cultural backgrounds, which makes a uniform foundational work such as this necessary in order to reinforce doctrinal unity despite all other differences.

I am pleased to make this Catechism–the creation of which was initiated by my predecessor in ministry, Chief Apostle Fehr–available to all brothers and sisters in time for the 150-year anniversary of the New Apostolic Church. It would make me happy if this work were also to be met with interest by believers of other churches. I warmly invite all to acquaint themselves with the content of the Catechism.

This book brings to expression fundamental convictions common to all Christians, but also sets forth the special features of the New Apostolic faith. The Catechism has been written in faith for people of faith. It must be emphasised that in all differences of interpretation, the New Apostolic Church holds great respect for the doctrinal statements of other churches.

The Catechism is a fundamental reference work. It is a standard for New Apostolic faith life. Certainly this book will not answer all questions in detail. It provides a great deal of opportunity for dialogue and discussion about timely issues.

A work group comprised primarily of District Apostles and Apostles has created this reference work. This project has been accompanied by the assembly of all District Apostles of the world at important steps along the way. The present text has been completed in close consultation with me.

I would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all involved and express my appreciation and gratitude for all the work they have done. May this work be used in blessing and provide orientation in faith!

Below are the District Apostle’s thoughts on Catechism:

The Catechism of the New Apostolic Church in Questions and Answers

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The Catechism of the New Apostolic Church in Questions and Answers (CNAC QA) will be available to you soon. It reflects the text of the long version of the Catechism (CNAC) in 750 questions and answers.
Thus two versions of this work are now available, each of which fulfils different requirements. When preparing the CNAC QA, an essential objective was to ensure that it was as understandable and intelligible as possible. To achieve this, several methods were used:

  • The reader is guided through the contents by means of questions and answers that build upon each other.
  • In order to facilitate the reader’s understanding of the subject matter, which is, in part, complex, the topics are presented in the form of a great number of individual questions and answers, thus allowing interrelated section to be short.
  • The text is worded as clear as possible and without the use of many technical terms.
  • Explanations are provided for certain terms, or their explanations, as given in the Catechism, expanded.
In the future, the CNAC QA shall be used as an additional textbook during lessons, it is, moreover, very well suited to impart, in a readily understandable way, Christian doctrine in general and our Church’s teaching in particular. The text therefore contains many complete biblical quotations. This offers the reader the advantage of consulting these passages, even without having a Bible at hand. Terms which are not readily understood at first glance are explicitly explained when they first appear in the text.

The works structure corresponds to that of CNAC. Thus the Catechism of the New Apostolic Church in Questions and Answers can be used as a practical guide to the Catechism and is perfectly suited for self-study.

The pictures invite one to reflect for a moment. Sometimes they highlight the text, and sometimes they simply serve an illustration.

Our Chief Apostle, who has been intensively engaged in the development of the CNAC QA, addresses the readers in the foreword to the book: “Like the CNAC, this version of the Catechism is an appeal to all New Apostolic Christians to occupy themselves intensively with the content of their faith.
It is also an invitation to all interested parties to become better acquainted with the New Apostolic doctrine. May the use of this reference work serve for blessing!”

Both the CNAC and the ANAC QA will be availed to you at a subsdised cost so that you too may contribute to the production cost. This will allow us to produce more copies to be made available to as many brothers and sisters as possible.
The CNAC is currently available in English only. Funds allowing we shall translate it into a number of local languages as well.
The CNAC, QA is available in the following languages as from September 1, 2015:-

  • Bemba
  • Chewa
  • Kaonde
  • Lozi
  • Lunda
  • Luvale
  • Nyanja
  • Ndebele
  • Shona
  • Tonga
  • Tumbuka
Please let us comply with the appeal from our Chief Apostle to occupy ourselves intensively with the contents of our Faith in the Catechism of the New Apostolic Church in the documents available to us.

Hearty greetings from our dear Chief Apostle in which I also gladly join.
I wish you God’s richest blessings.
Yours Sincerely
Charles S Ndandula
